As an MS SLL student, you will engage in:

A Strong Academic Foundation

A comprehensive first-year curriculum including foundational sciences, communication disorders across the lifespan, diverse patient populations, and professional issues. These courses provide the depth and breadth necessary to prepare students to evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide range of speech, language, and learning disorders and differences.

Transformative Clinical Experiences

Clinical education is woven throughout the program and designed to develop competency across the full spectrum of service delivery. Students gain hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art Northwestern University Center for Audiology, Speech, Language, and Learning (NUCASLL), as well as through immersive full-time externships that align with their evolving interests and goals.

Opportunities for Individualization and Growth

During the second year, students can pursue elective coursework aligned with their clinical and professional interests, allowing them to deepen their knowledge in areas of specialization. Additional opportunities include faculty-mentored independent studies and thesis experiences that support advanced scholarship and inquiry.

Throughout these experiences, students learn to integrate research, evidence-based practice, and clinical decision-making to create meaningful change for their clients. Working closely with clinical educators, faculty mentors, and peers, they develop not only clinical expertise but also communication, self-awareness, collaboration, and leadership skills essential for success in today’s professional environments.

Equally important to our academic experience is the strength of our student community.
